HOW TO: Top Tips On Growing Your Instagram Business Page

Updated: Jun 8, 2020

Let’s talk followers! I frequently get asked about how you can increase your followers and grow your Instagram. I honestly believe that followers aren't the be all and end all and it really does depend on the type of business you have. However, social media is a free marketing tool and it would be crazy to not take advantage of it.

A lot of people get sucked into the trap of paying for followers, which may seem like the easy option but it’s best avoided. And here’s why:

Buying followers isn't very expensive and that's because fake followers don't actually do much for your Instagram. You aren’t getting REAL people interacting with your account. Sure, it may look good on the surface but its sole purpose is to make it seem like you have a popular account. It’s a very transparent technique and the best thing for small businesses are genuine people interacting with your profile. These followers aren't going to be regularly liking and engaging with your posts which means buying followers can actually damage the credibility of your brand. It can come across as false and deceptive which isn't how you want your audience to perceive you.

Another question I get asked is: DO HASHTAGS WORK?

Hashtags serve a purpose but you shouldn't rely on them to grow your page and they definitely aren't a technique I think is worth shouting about. When you do use hashtags, make sure they are optimised and relevant to your industry. If this is something you would like to know more about, then let me know and I can do a post on targeted hashtags.

My TOP TIPS for increasing your followers and engagement on Instagram:

Post regular, curated content. However, don’t post a million times in one day and bore everyone with the same content. It can be hard finding time to post consistently, which is why I recommend taking time out to schedule posts and plan ahead. Let me know if you’d like me to do a blog post on content creation and what you should be posting on your social media.

It’s so important to engage and interact with posts on your feed. Social media can be an overwhelming place, so I like to support and interact with other small businesses as part of an online community. Engagement is very important and you should also be checking your analytics to see what is and isn’t working for you.

3 - FOLLOW ✨

When I first started my full time job, I doubled our Instagram followers in just a month. I grew 300 followers for this account in a week. How? Research your target audience and get following. I also recommend following accounts similar to your own. Most of these accounts will follow you back and best of all, they will be genuine and organic followers. There are also lots of free apps available for you to monitor progress and unfollow those who choose not to engage with your account.

Before someone decides to follow your account, most people look at your profile first. Optimise your profile by making sure it's clear who you are and what you do. Your name, bio and display picture are all important so take time to really ensure it's eye-catching.

5 - GIVEAWAYS ✨ It's become popular to do giveaways on social media as a way of increasing followers or growing brand awareness. I actually think competitions are a great way of finding people who are interested in your business and getting them to engage with you. This is absolutely something businesses should consider if you can afford to do this kind of promotion.

I hope this post helps anyone who is struggling to navigate Instagram or needed some advice. Send me a message if you’d like me to personally help you strategise for your business.
